Premiere: Jack Garratt – Worry (Jack Garratt Remix)

worryremix

The great Jack Garratt, freshly signed to Turn First (Dan Croll, Laurel, etc), and in ascent following his excellent breakout single “Worry” remixes that very track with stunning results. The soulful ethos at the original “Worry”‘s center is very much intact but what’s been woven into the new instrumental by Garratt through a seamless blend of varying styles and genres (nu-house, 90’s R&B, current pop) is truly fantastic. The new mix’s quality is indicative of the deeply talented artist. Listen to the B3 premiere of Jack Garratt’s new mix for “Worry” below and look for Jack’s Buy Remnants EP out July 14.

Rave’s Fave: Rory Wynne – Post Party Confusion

Rory Wynne

They grow ‘em younger in the UK and the list of teenage Brits on the radar continues to expand. Rory Wynne is from around Manchester and is all of 14. “Post Party Confusion” is fun, raw and unique with strong lyrics. It shows that Rory has major potential. According to BBC 6 Music host Tom Robinson (yes the hit-making Tom Robinson of yesteryear), Rory is “a true rock and roll poet”. Rory played everything on this recording and manages himself. He’s got a bunch of songs recorded and is definitely worth keeping an eye and ear on. By Bruce Rave

Black Honey – Sleep Forever

blackhoneyuk

The fabulous Duly Noted Records, home to releases from IYES and The Night IV, debut their newest signing Black Honey and the band’s track for “Sleep Forever”. For the debut song, a demo, BH cast to a nostalgia-coasting sheet of wistful guitar strums and low touch rhythms pinpoint evocative and effective vocal lines. “Sleep Forever” is a very exceptional first track.

Baauer – Clang

baauer

Baauer bro returns today with a progressive take on trap/bass production on “Clang”. The for lack of a better description “clangy” instrumental and stop start rhythm patterns remind a bit structurally of Madlib (if Madlib were 21 and making trap beats). Hat tip to Baauer for persisting (and following up his immensely high level of success) in a stylistically interesting way.

Meg Mac – Roll Up Your Sleeves

megmac

Classic soul-inspired Aussie Meg Mac continues her momentum with soaring “Roll Up Your Sleeves”. The piano soul of “Roll Up Your Sleeves”, while maybe a bit more school of Sam Smith than Sam Cooke, is still in its great melodic writing and arranging cut from a not too dissimilar DNA to either artist. Meg Mac’s self-titled EP is slated for an August release.

Kill J – You Have Another Lover

killj

The Danish export Kill J drops new track “You Have Another Lover”. A seeping preparation of glacial far-off production and Kill J’s alien to this world ethereal vocals, “You Have Another Lover” cuts a bit different (and excellent) stylistic direction from previous more direct immediate tracks like “Bullet” and “Phoenix”.

The Morning Birds – Indian Summer Bloom (Dimond Saints Remix)

Morning Birds Indian Summer Bloom Dimond Saints Remix

LA’s The Morning Birds have always been hard to peg down sonically which has ultimately added a touch of mystique to their output. The BLOOM EP, set to be released August 12th, ups the ante by bringing in a slew of unique DJ’s who remix their track “Bloom” into sonically matched seasons of the year. SPOILER ALERT: The original track is a mind blowing jazz, trip-hop odyssey that itself won’t be released till the EP drops.
For now, we can satiate our hunger with Dimond Saints’ hypnotic rendition, which leans heavily on the Bay-Area duo’s knack for future bass and booty-shaking low end. A sound which has become Dimond Saints staple in recent months with designer remixes for the likes of Seinabo Sey and LAYLA. The track brings a spiritual quality to EDM, and is complemented by a passionate vocal delivery manipulated to sound like Gregorian Monks which notches the vocal track down into a deep and spellbinding chant.
