Sam Sparro – Happiness

samsparro

The funk soul brother Sam Sparro readies a strong return with “Happiness”, the lead single from his upcoming Return to Paradise LP. An upbeat piano-driven tune, “Happiness” abily throws back to the slick funky dance pop of the early 90’s. Expect a full single release soon with remixes from Beni, The Magician and more. (HCM)

AraabMUZIK – A Diamond Life

araabmuzik2

AraabMUZIK occupies a level right now few other producers can even can come close to. Just about everything this guy is dropping whether instrumental or production is a must listen. “A Diamond Life” is excerpted from AraabMUZIK’s recent Instrumental University mixtape release (which you should definitely get up on if you haven’t yet) serves as a retrospective on the producer’s career and growth thusfar.

Mint Julep – To The Sea

mint-julep-to-the-sea

Portland’s Mint Julep has been heavy in the b3sci rotation the last several weeks. If you’re a longtime reader of the site, you’ll know that the gravitas-filled electronic-tinged cinematic pop style that is in Mint Julep’s music (ex. “To The Sea”) is right in one of b3sci’s “sweet spots”. Mint Julep is a band you should/need be listening to.

Bombay Bicycle Club – How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep (Scuba Mix)

bbcsleep

One of our favorite artists in any genre Hotflush producer Scuba goes mental over BBC’s latest single “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep”. Re-fashioning as a sprawling nearly 8-minute subterranean dub techno monster, the BBC sound is transformed here in a way it hasn’t quite been before. We LOVE this sound, we love every hand in this mix and would definitely be up for hearing more BBC tracks mixed in this style. Listen.

Noosa – Fear of Love

noosa_cover

Newcomers out of NYC Noosa let loose the title track of their upcoming EP “Fear of Love”. A well executed piece of synth/dream pop, “Fear of Love” earns its b3sci bread on its irresistibly hooky chorus. Give yourself a sample below.

BJ The Chicago Kid – The World Is A Ghetto (Feat. Kendrick Lamar)

bjthechicagokid

“His Pain” ruled. Here BJ and K.Dot cook up the next chapter in their (hopefully long) collaborative history. “The World Is A Ghetto” (word to George Benson) combines that super smooth super cool feel of a classic Benson track with a Marvin Gaye/Stevie Wonder-esque (Stevie is also sampled here) rhythm figure. Just the beat itself is dope as hell, add in BJ’s well felt croons and Kendrick’s top-of-his-game 16 and you have what can only be described as a really special track.

Shlohmo – Rained the Whole Time (Nicolas Jaar Remix)

shlohmovacation

Nicolas Jaar pulls the floor/foundation/earth’s crust out from under the Shlohmo jam “Rained the Whole Time”. We’re talking SUPER deep. Jaar takes what was already a cooly visceral track and has (by mixing in subtle changes in rhythms and atmopsheres) cooked down “Rained the Whole Time” to its most bare, vulnerable & transparent. It’s a really powerful mix.

“Movin” by young? UK producer Youan is about to make your week. This that soulful UK beats shit done at its highest level. We’ve had Youan on heavy blast here at b3sci HQ the last couple weeks and continue to not really be able to get enough. Let “Movin'” be your introduction to this criminally under the radar artist.
