Greg Preston & the Great Machine – Leave the Light On

gregpreston

This is how we rock and roll. The Stooges, The Cramps, The Gun Club, the muthafuckin’ blues. “Leave the Light On” has the energy, conviction, and raw power that make the best rock and roll.

DAMNDOGS – Low

damndogs2

So we’ve spent a little more time with DAMNDOGS’ debut EP Strange Behaviour and have got to say, DAMNDOGS kinda rule. “Low” sort of moves to the pulse of 70’s dance/r&b-bent classic rock, think David Bowie, Steely Dan, etc. DAMNDOGS feature the rhythm section of JET(!). WTF! Anyway, this DAMNDOGS shit is way better than any of those Iggy Pop covers Jet used to do. C’mon!

Neon Hitch – Donald Trump (Mac Miller)

donaldtrump

Seems as though Hitch is starting to make something of a thing of these hip hop covers. Here she jumps on another high as fuck Pittsburgher’s track, Mac Miller’s “Donald Trump”. Somehow when Ms. Hitch spits the hook I believe her a lil’ bit more than I do Mac man, she really is on her Donald Trump shit. We hope, for her, it’s the “lots of money” part of Donald Trump shit and not the “Birther” or “Divorce Court” or “Slumlording” end of Donald Trump shit. You’re Fired!

Lucy Rose – First

lucyrose

Lucy Rose dazzles us again on “First”. Lucy’s beautiful hushed vocal speaks out a graceful soft melodic line into the track. Washed further with acoustic guitar strums, the overall feel of the tune is breathtaking. Take a listen.

Kenton Dunson – Top of the World (Feat. Passion Pit)

dunson

Best we’ve heard thusfar from Kenton. “Top of the World” is breakthrough type shit. The track features a Passion Pit sample which will no doubt bring more curious ears to the song. Usually, these “indie sample” mixtape rap tracks fall flat for us and a song that may seem OK after listen 1 or 2 sounds boooooring by listen 5 or 6 (if you ever get that far). “Top of the World” is not one of those tracks. Get it. via BTB

Clipse – Gangsta Lean (John Fontein Remix)

clipse

Brooklyn producer John Fontein rolls the back the clock picking up the classic Clipse track “Gangsta Lean” (’02) and taking that sweet Neps beat all the way back, Sunday afternoon – 1981 back. This is the sort of joint you lean back to, you throw your glass of wine-holding hand in the sky and you sway to. Yep. Gangsta Lean.

Howling Bells – The Loudest Engine

howlingbells

Yeaahhhhhhhhh. Offered up is “The Loudest Engine” the latest from Oz band Howling Bells. “The Loudest Engine” is a song that most definitely lives up to its track name. This baby is a loud grinder, you can almost feel the gears of some large machination wheel and turn in each jabby guitar lead. You will want to turn this one up.

Mosca – Done Me Wrong

mosca

Mosca is back with a track that is nothing short of phenomenal. If you like UK Electronic music, you will love “Done Me Wrong”. It’s funny the more these genres (garage, funky, dubstep, etc.) blend together and evolve the more and more we hear 90’s house music. Like we’re all headed breeches first into some sort of dance music singularity and while the gravity ’round a singularity is so intense not even light can escape, the sounds of “Gypsy Woman” able to do so. via LFTF

Louie XV – That Shit Cray (Kreay) (Kreayshawn x Jay-Z x Kanye West)

kreayshawn

Oh damn. Awww nawwww, that shit kray. Vancouver BC producer Louie XV puts a sound to the nascent “That shit kray” meme. The Kreayshawn part off the start’s a little “just alright” but when Jay and Ye drop into the track, you’re looking at full force banger territory. Awww naw. Tip Soul Culture UK
