Mindless Behavior – My Girl

mindless

Contributed by Erin Routson

Dang, I know I’m an adult woman, but this preteen jam was bumping like crazy on the radio in Cleveland this weekend while I was visiting home. Initially I couldn’t understand how something so rudimentary could appeal to anyone. The more it played, though, I got sucked in by its infectious bleeps. Now I can’t wait til the next Weezy mixtape drops with him freestyling over this beat. This is saccharine, by-the-book pop music sung by 14 year olds, and I love everything about it. Combine this with their dance moves – Chris Brown and Usher better be on notice.

Gold Panda – Marriage (Star Slinger Remix)

marriage

OMG yes! So straight away we loved Gold Panda’s original “Marriage” single. Loved is maybe putting it a bit mildly. Totally fucking knocked out. (And the vid’s the shit too). But jeez, Star Slinger just went next level with this remix. Star Slinger is maybe our favorite electronic artist in the game right now. Like can’t wait from release to release for what comes next. Dude is so so good. How many artists can you genuinely say that about, right? So legit.

The Strokes – You’re So Right

strokes

Julian, bud, you know this totally sounds like Radiohead, right? Not that we’re complaining. The tune has legs. The thin electro-drums, the arpeggiated guitar layers, the frenetic vocals. Nikolai we see you bumping OK Computer on your iPod touch. It’s OK, we’re still cool. We like this song, just please don’t go all Our Lady Peace on us and come back sounding like this on LP 5. All we ask.

Telekinesis – You Turn Clear In The Sun

telekenesis_credit_kylejohnson_merge

“You Turn Clear In The Sun” is a favorite cut from Telekinesis’ new album 12 Desperate Straight Lines. Complete with a nice verse, the song is light and bouncy and doesn’t drag on. It’s a solid pop song. And besides, the world could always use more singing drummers.

“Electric Witch” is new from UK trio The Shutes. We’re loving these guitar hooks and how effortlessly they flow into the chorus, with a familiar yet fresh sound.

Chino Maurice – Luna

chino-maurice

Here’s one to watch in 2011. Based out of NYC, Chino Maurice will be opening for N*E*R*D on his coming national tour. Track is smooth in all the right ways, ugh, so do like Chino say’s and… “Get it on”!

Nitty Scott, MC – Work (Grustlin’)

Contributed by Erin Routson

Nitty Scott MC takes DJ Premier’s “Work” beat into the economic reality of today – “$11 for some Newports? Sometimes I think I can’t afford to love New York.” The result is a fresh take on a classic beat. If there’s one thing hip hop needs, it’s more ladies who can spit like this.
