Yeah, we know “Ready for the World” is played out to hell; but it’s still a fucking beautiful mega tune. And we b3sci’ers are major league crushing on it at the moment, so love it.
Prague-based electronic artist Tvyks comes at us crazy with this new track for “Mitte Riddim”. Tvyks lays down a kinetic beat, sounds coming through your speakers at all angles, spirited claps, tom shuffles, subtle synth counter rhythms. But at the tune’s core, there is a soulfulness and a humanness, something that draws you in, something in the tune that communicates at a more visceral level. UK rapper C. Monts drops a few choice bars into the mix, legging up the track’s possible crossover relevance. Get it girl!
The Clock Opera kids flip this new Drums single. This remix comes to us as one in a series of four new remixes released to accompany the new “Me & the Moon” release. Have to say, Clock Opera pretty much nails this, putting the original tune on top a smooth synth glide and jangly repeating arpeggios, and their remix is the true standout of the four. (Matthew Dear, Moonlight Matters & Twin Shadow also contribute). Get into it below.
Here at b3sci HQ, we had such an overload of solid jams today, we were at a loss as to what to feature. So we said, fuck it, we’ll just throw it all up. So here goes the rock mix. New tracks from The Vaccines (An excellent follow up to first single “Wreckin’ Bar”), Wye Oak (Andy Stack’s hushed kick drumming is the best compliment to Jenn Wasner’s subtle golden tones), and Duran Duran (A strong return on this Mark Ronson produced stomper). Enjoy.
One spin was all it took for us to fall in love (become addicted) with “Household Goods”, new from Brit electronica act Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. This is a seriously good song. Like knock you straight out good. So get to it. We’ll stop yammering. Get the play button. p.s. The vid is pretty good too.
Flying Lotus premiered a new jam, “Golden Axe”, on Gilles Peterson’s show last night. There’s word that Fly Lo’s working with pieces of a new sound these days. If this be any indication of the new direction, consider us psyched. Tip to SKOA
Our old friends Fenech-Soler are back with the latest single from their S/T debut, the track for “Demons”. “Demons” comes packed with killer melodies, outta space harmony and hooks, and dope beats and synthetic rhythms. Jam.
b3sci favs Jesse Boykins III and Machine Drum link up on this killer new single. The mix of Machine Drum’s more synthetic, heavier tones with JBIII’s smooth soulful tenor is magic; the tension between the mechanized and the organic. Had this one on blast much of the day. Look for “B4 the Night Is Thru” on iTunes tomorrow.
York, UK’s Benjamin Francis Leftwich recently recorded this slow jams version of the Arcade Fire MTV 2 hit. We’re big fans of the 21 year old and his subtle yet cinematic approach to the singer-songwriter genre. We rep’d his killer “Atlas Hands” tune in September and we are pretty psyched to bring to you this new cover. So let your fingers do the walking over to play button below, and let the jamming commence.
When two b3sci favs link up in collaboration, you know its on. So b3sci fam, call up Donkey Kong, Charlie Brown, and gather round the Cleveland Browns cause it’s ON! It’s on, man. It’s on. Turn it on.
Complete with a chugging acoustic, far off strings, and an easy recorded style, you’d almost expect We Are Trees singer James Nee to drop the first few bars of “Dear Chan Marshall” in Portuguese. The song has that sort of vaguely bossa, distant notion of Brazil feel to it. Yes, there’s also a Grizzly Bear-like quality here too. It does sort of sound like those Grizzly blokes. Though, We Are Trees, at least on this tune, come off as more immediate, more visceral. Whereas the Bear guys operate in some sort folk song Thermosphere, Nee and the Trees evoke feelings closer to ground; but still operating in some sort of efferscent layer of the near ether, still in the air, still floating. “Dear Chan Marshall” is the third of four tracks on We Are Trees debut LP Boyfriend. You can stream the EP here on the group’s bandcamp. Check it out.
Big tune here from Irish trio Funeral Suits. We heard “Colour Fader” on Zane Lowe’s show the other night, and wow, what a song. There are obvious influences here, MGMT, Temper Trap, (as cited by Zane himself) Blur, Smiths (Dudes are working with the Stephen Street! The bloke who produced Parklife!), but what a super exciting mix of sounds. And it sounds different! And from a new band! Love it. Can’t wait to see what more is in store from these guys.
Gotta give it up to Chris Martin & co. “Christmas Lights” is great. It has all those components that make for good holiday music, feelings of nostalgia, feelings of warmth, and feelings of familiarity. “Christmas Lights” sounds familiar, probably cause it is, after all, Coldplay. “Christmas Lights” feels warm, it feels like a reminder. I put the tune on earlier for the first time, and I can’t front, I was skeptical I thought Coldplay doing a Christmas single, how many times shlocky will this end up being. But by the fifth or sixth listen (I had lost count), I was hooked. I was practically ready to trim the tree and all that by the end of the afternoon. Check it below.
Our girl with the golden pipes UK singer-songwriter Jessie J links up here w Bobby Ray for this jangly piece of feel-good pop. Jessie’s got it locked talent-wise. That’s without question. She’s a star. Can she be Kate Nash big? Duffy big? Lily Allen big? Totally can! Work it, girl.
