Midsplit – Same Life (Feat. Wiz Khalifa)

Midsplit has released “Same Life,” the Montreal producer’s first single of the year. Driving guitar, scattered and panned beats, and warm synths sway from the background to the foreground. The EDM track is an upbeat mix featuring Wiz Khalifa. It’s a pop-infused bouncy house meant for fuzzy, sweaty nights.

Premiere: CAPYAC – Down In It (Feat. Caroline Watson)

“Down In It” is brand new (premiere! premiere! premiere!) from French band CAPYAC. Vets of SXSW, Austin City Limits, Euphoria Fest, Sound on Sound Fest, the group traffic in expertly executed warm Francophone synth-driven textures and melodies. The track features vocalist Caroline Watson and may/may not be an insight into the direction of the band’s forthcoming EP “Who Is Donny Flamingo”. To quote (and follow carefully), “In 1612, on the 15th night of the first month, when the moon was half, centered in the sky and the village’s families in their beds, there was a local magistrate who pondered the great questions in his mind. He found his quill and his ink and began to, without filter, press his thoughts into the page. This is a similar feeling that we had writing the song “Down In It”. We want the page to reveal the shapes that correspond with letters and enunciations, corresponding to feelings that we’ve had and that the universal “we” have also had. There is no use rewriting the books, because we have printers. This gives you a glimpse of insight into our writing process. As a whole, how does this song fit into our next EP “Who is Donny Flamingo”? It remains to be seen. Certainly, Donny Flamingo is a curious character that is difficult to define, a complex villain, a tale as old as tails, so I don’t think we have the answers, not yet at least.”

We’re digging “Fools”, new from Melbourne AU’s Oscar Key Sung, and it’s kinetic blend of soulful house-inspired instrumentation and cool melodic writing.

Kainalu – Finding Peace Of Mind

If the holidays have you in a hectic state, “Finding Peace of Mind,” with Kainalu’s new track is exactly what you need. Sublime synths melodies topped with chilled-out vocals gives this track an air of relaxation that is almost unavoidable. If that weren’t enough, when that bass line hits I’m swept into a dream state every time. Kick your feet up and bump this one at your earliest convenience.

Love Taps – Should I (Torn) (Feat. Gale)

Love Taps’ latest single has a fresh tropical swing to it. Amidst looped vocal samples from the featured Jamaican-American singer Gale, “Should I (Torn)” turns the volume up on clanging metallic percussion, fast paced maracas, and flares of high pitched synths. The track swells, subsides, and swells again. The vocals are chopped, skewed, and reworked to form a synthetic multidimensional choir. It’s time to get up and start twirling those shoulders.

Taska Black x DROELOE – Running Away (Feat. Cut)

Future electronic artists Taska Black and DROELOE team up for the track, “Running Away”, featuring CUT. I’ve been following DROELOE for a while now, and at this point, I expect nothing less than excellent from him; and boy does he deliver on this track. The dream team of Taska Black and DROELOE is an immaculate one. The two artists really compliment one another to create trap-bass hybrid bliss.

Unlike Pluto – Nothing Wrong With Me

Pluto is an electronic artist unlike anyone else else there right now. Seriously. This guy is breaks the mold of traditional EDM and forms a new path into a world of his own. “Nothing Wrong With Me” fuses the thoughts of your inner teenage angst with the support to be whoever you want to be. In a time when truly being yourself is more socially accepted than ever before, the theme of this track, and the vibe of this artist in general, is 100% topical.

Wild & Free – Ferns and Stuff

Out now on the excellent Portuguese imprint Discotexas is Shapes On Shapes, the debut LP from LA twosome Wild & Free. Built around an atmosphere of (at least imagined for us) of a hazy mid 90’s club where EBTG is about to knock out a set, “Ferns and Stuff” is a strong slice of cinematic disco-tinged pop dropped on to us most fortuitously from a very rad 1997-origin time machine (with really great taste).

STéLOUSE – Rockstar (Feat. Still Haze & Manus) (Post Malone)

STéLOUSE covers one of 2017’s biggest tracks “Rockstar” by the dynamic duo of Post Malone and 21 Savage in the style of Soundcloud in 2014; adding woozy synths and a new vocal track (Still Haze is an MVP here) in making over “Rockstar” into a great big sounding club winner.

Solstis – Take Me (Feat. Ally Ahern)

It’s nice when a song not only has great production, but an even greater message. “Take Me” (Feat. Ally Ahern) by Solstis is definitely one of those tracks. If you’re not familiar with these guys, they won the Discovery Project for Electric Forest in 2015 with their track “Forever In Silence.” I’m predicting big things for these Chicago natives, keep your eye out for them in the future.

VTCN Radio – Mydriase

After more than a year of silence, the French duo VTCN Radio finally released their debut album, Mydraise. It’s mood is mysterious and confidential, but it nonetheless delivers. I personally like how it’s not so in your face with an intense melody and love the chilled-out vibe. If you like downtempo electronic and dubstep, you’ll enjoy these slow, hypnotic tunes. Giraffage – Green Tea (Feat. Angelica Bess)

I’ve been a longtime fan of Giraffage so when he came out with a new album, Too Real, I immediately streamed it. I was happy to see Giraffage move into a more poppy sound, without sounding over-commercialized. With tons of vocalists like Japanese Breakfast, Harrison Lipton, and Angelica Bess, his sound is definitely evolving. The track “Green Tea” (feat. Angelica Bess) is my personal favorite. If you’re familiar with the band Body Language, this track totally embodies that sound. Check it out!
