Ryan Egan – Restoration

ryanegan

B3 recently covered the ingenious lavishly-spun Tei Shi-featuring LUCA solo-side-project first track “Best On” from Luca Buccellati; one half of Brooklyn-raised producer duo Yellerkin who also produces music for an array of emerging-talent artists. We’re knocked out by his latest collaboration, “Restoration” for its soulful, deeply-percolating ambiance, vibey drawn-out beats and divinely-gorgeous tender heart-felt vocals from a new-find singer-songwriter Ryan Egan who makes his career debut online with the track. We’re taken with Egan’s emotive beyond-excellent refreshingly-vulnerable falsetto vocal style and big-picture deeply thought-out lyrics. As Egan indicates, ”It’s a song about hitting the reset button, a rebirth. It’s something that will and should happen many times throughout our lives, artistic and otherwise. It’s good to acknowledge where we’ve gone wrong and not be afraid to expose our faults so that we can move forward and grow in a positive way. I think everyone can relate to that.” We whole-heatedly relate to that and very much look forward to hearing more from the superbly-talented little-known artist Egan who we think has incredible promise. Stay tuned for more from both artists who are surprisingly (in a sense) at the same fresh and enthusiastic place in launching their respective solo careers. Excellent collaboration. Natural Sequence – Galactic Soul

naturalsequence

Natural Sequence is a five-person collective of musicians with a stylistic range from neo-rhythm and blues to future soul, hip-hop and jazz who make music with a tender-hearted sense of verve and careful adherence to a creative weave of sultry soul-filled vocals, live instruments, drum machines and vintage synthesizers. We like new track “Galactic Soul” from the group’s new mini-album Live Session at Flat 3 Studio for its emotive blend of bluesy vocals (from songstress Gala Ga), rock solid bass-laden-groove, and the track’s outstanding, luxurious entice-the-senses jazzy vibe accents of percussion. We recently premiered Hans Island track “Let Me Be” the catchy and repetitive, stunning-vocaled gem which features the wonderfully emotive alto-vocals of London-based Dane and rising-star R&B songstress Marie Dahlstrøm; a 2013 Scandinavian Soul Award winner and one-half of the talented up-and-coming new duo , that includes Canadian producer Mawhs. On her most recent collaboration “Look the Other Way” which is the first track to release from the Scandinavian’s upcoming debut summer-solo EP, Dahlstrøm teams up with Baltimore-bred LA-based producer-songwriter D.K. the Punisher and talented UK singer Sophie Faith for a beat-centric 90’s-vibe R&B-soul melange which revels in an artistically impressive deeply-expressive melody that we love. The Internet – Ego Death

internetegodeath

After teasing us with a couple of very excellent R&B-soul hybrid EP-introduction singles in about a month, LA-native male-female duo The Internet (who branched away from music collective Odd Future in 2011) just released their well-balanced soulfully-street dazzling-vocaled new “Ego Death” EP, which features a fine array of big producer names and choice vocal talents; such as, Canadian producer Kaytranada, songstress Janelle Monáe, rappers Vic Mensa and Tyler The Creator as well as singer-songwriter James Fauntleroy. The EP has an overall-solid steady stream of lush and emotional, vocally-stunning slick R&B tracks that beautifully showcase the duo’s many musical gifts and unique hybrid style (which we think also incorporates an eclectic touch of LA’s streets and hip-hop attitude). According to the duo, who are often known as a collective because they tour and perform live with four additional members, “Ego Death” (out via Columbia Records) is a “heady mix of confessions and come-ons” that is largely about “being vulnerable and honest…growing up as a band and individuals….acknowledging our egos and the egos around us, and learning from life’s challenges”. The best tracks on the album are hands-down the Vic Mensa-featured track “Go With It”, “Just Sayin-iTried”, the catchy-hooked “Special Affair” and (our very favorite) B3 recent-feature “Girl” the superb Kaytranada-produced second-single which we loved for its provocative on point-instrumentals, R&B-blessed sweet-rapture ending and golden-touch vocals of Syd tha Kid (who in her versatility and scope reminds us of the vocally-confident multi-talent style-setter songstress Gwen Stefani). Very very good. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Tuxedo – Without Your Love

tuxedo

Zone out to the buttery-smooth vocal digs, peppery on-point piano percussion and hand-clap jazz-horn-enhanced gangsta-funk boogie mayhem of “Without Your Love” the latest track from new Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One collaboration, Tuxedo, who recently released their highly-lauded self-titled 12-track album. With good humor, the Tuxedo guys state in an interview with Red Bull Music that they sought to maintain a “fine line between keeping it G and Kenny G” on that album for which “Without Your Love” was originally intended; it’s one of 40 songs that the duo created for Tuxedo and then omitted on the release and it actually ended up as an exclusive Japan-only album-bonus-track. Now available worldwide the boogie-subtle funked-up totally G “Without Your Love” is a perfect track to launch in time for Tuxedo’s US Tour (starting tomorrow) as it beautifully encapsulates the duo’s fantastic meld of style as embodied on their new album; a style which is an expertly-crafted well-balanced soulful medium between west coast gangsta funk and profoundly rich n’ synthy 80’s-inspired instrumentally-laced 80’s boogie grooves. Get into the the forward-thinking, cool R&B-infused, and cheerful-uprising vibe on new Two Inch Punch-assisted track “Gemini” from Anne-Marie, a multi-faceted London artist (including martial) and outstanding Rudimental-protege vocal-talent who is set to release her career-debut “Karate” EP on July 10th (via Major Toms). Anne-Marie who worked on “Gemini” with Two Inch Punch, a.k.a gifted musician/producer and talent-magnet Ben Ash launches her new solo EP in style. Well done, this is a beautiful collaboration. The dualistic “Gemini” excels for its well-written outwardly-stormy verse and creative true-to-life female-emotional love/hate-perplexed vocal delivery that contrasts nicely with Anne-Marie’s positive firey-opposite come-hither interludes, enticing sensual rhyme flow and catchy all-encompasing blissfull-resignation melodic hook.
