Nobody past, present or (likely) future can shit talk on a record like Bobby Womack.
Bobby Womack – You’re Welcome, Stop on ByFrom 1963. Written by Holland-Dozier-Holland, with The Supremes (!) on back-up vocals. Spotless.
Marvin Gaye – Can I Get a WitnessSome pretty sick soul music came out of Miami in the late 60’s to mid 70’s, George and Gwen McCrae, Timmy Thomas, and Helene Smith. “True Love Don’t Grow On Trees” is that classic soul ballad you’ve heard prob your whole life except not this good. The horn section, the choir crazy on backup, the “Man’s World” groove, it’s all here and it’s recorded/produced with a rawness and immediacy that still cuts the track forty odd years on.
