Disclosure – Moonlight

Bash bros. Disclosure are a very talented pair indeed and with seemingly inextinguishable aplomb fire into the September ether, the vocal-heavy house head-nodder “Moonlight”.

SWANES – BPD

Toronto duo SWANES impress on the breezy and very neatly syncopated “BPD”, the follow-up to “I Hate Summer” from July.

Mick Jenkins – What Am I to Do

Mick Jenkins previews Kaytranada-produced “What Am I to Do” from forthcoming Pieces of a Man project. “What Am I to Do” follows the Chicago rapper’s “Bruce Banner” from early last month and wins on its cool juxtaposition of Jenkins’ pointed rhymes to Kaytra’s vocal sample-driven midtempo instrumental.

NEIL FRANCES – Took a While

One of our favorite emerging bands out is right here in Los Angeles in the form of duo NEIL FRANCES. NF’s sound and knack for rhythm-driven hooks mixed to air-y but still direct melodies and tune creation has us pretty knocked out. If you’re unfamiliar, “Took a While” is the title track from the band’s just released EP that most definitely deserves your streaming (or otherwise) attention ASAP.

Olive B – Illusion

Torontonian singer Olive B debuts new track “Illusion”. A magnetic hooky-rhythm track set to quiet organ stabs is a great structure around Olive B’s cool and soulful main vocal that had us wrapped up as fans almost immediately. Stream “Illusion” below.

LAUREL – Adored

Excerpted from new LP by UK singer LAUREL Dogviolet is “Adored”. The Southhampton-origin singer is one of the most consistent talents in indie pop right now knocking out great track after great track in the lead-up to Dogviolet , B3 favorite “Lovesick” immediately comes to mind. “Adored” is a spacious, rhythm-driven track that’s powerful without being obvious all while communicating what is a pretty clear lyrical message (I think). Dogviolet is out now on Counter Records.

Cambriana – Lucifer

Coming to us from Goiania in central Brazil is Cambriana and their cool as hell track “Lucifer”. A refreshing blend of more traditional Brazilian music and song structures with modern psych and indie, “Lucifer” is a tremendous song in a distinctive package and needs your attention below.

TEMPESST – Roller Coaster

Yeah! This is more like it! TEMPESST are a London UK five-piece group based around Australian twins brothers Toma and Andy Banjanin. “Roller Coaster” is big and ambitious, psychedelic, all that but it’s also a very cleverly constructed and hooky track with anthemic choruses tipped with just the right mix of organ and falsetto. Indieland take notice, TEMPESST are coming for that crown. TEMPESST’s “Doomsday” EP is out now.

Masego – Old Age (Feat. SiR)

Maybe the most exciting emerging artist out right now Masego picks up the also awesome SiR for a smartly arrange bit of gloomy soul in the form of “Old Age”. Lady Lady, the debut LP from Masego, is out in September.

Henry Nowhere – Not Going Back

We loved Henry Nowhere’s track from last month “Problems of the Heart” and are just as much into Mr. Nowhere’s latest “Not Going Back”. “NGB” sports a tightly-wound rhythm-driven feel buoyed by soft-touch reverb’d guitars and a float on top the mix main vocal. We’re digging the sound.

Premiere: Little Elizabeth – Pitt St.

Melbourne AU trio Little Elizabeth are one of our favorite new bands. Their silky-smooth mid-tempo jammer “G’day For It” is our opinion one of the best tracks of 2018. “Pitt St.” is Little Elizabeth’s debut release. Not quite an EP but not quite an album, “Pitt St.” is a further delve into the band’s 70’s soul and funk-influenced sound that’s packed full of cooled out grooves and great bits of percussive melody and songwriting. Stream the B3SCI Premiere of Little Elizabeth’s “Pitt St” below.
