Gliss – Beauty

gliss6

off Devotion Implosion, “Beauty” is the new single from LA shoeglam rockers Gliss. like Morning Light, this tune has a lot of the right pieces.. solid hooks, nice arrangement ideas, and an engaging overall sound. a radio edit just might do “Beauty” decent. either way Gliss clearly stand out in the greater number of their contemporaries.

Cibelle – Green Grass

cibelle2

an arresting cover of an arresting song. this version of “green grass”, from brazillian singer cibelle’s 2006 record “the shine of dried electric leaves”, is both sublime and stunning. the tinge of bossa used in the song’s spare instrumentation creates a color and atmosphere that evokes an at some times diffuse and at others blended notion/dynamic of romantic idea and stark isolation. cibelle’s breathy float-on-top-of-the-mix vocal feels as an intermediary between that polarity. cibelle’s voice through tom waits’ penetrating words evoke those spaces between moments, the spaces devoid of the capacity even potential to feel something….anything.

Bei Bei – “Stronger” (Feat. Georgia Anne Muldrow) (Floating Points Remix)

wow! there’s so much that’s ill about this track. …man, when the beat drops @ 0:42 ….or about 1:30 when ms. zheng goes into the mideast-tinged vocal tailing …. 2:36 when the heavier synth enters the mix ….and wow, that outro! and that’s only really the start, there’s just so much incredible shit going on in this remix. we’re blown away. bei bei’s “beauty and the beats” EP is due in september.

Freeland – “Borderline”

freeland-music

why this dude is choking some chick, we have no idea. but we were like, shit if you’re gonna choke somebody, and have a picture of you doing it… on your bands myspace, then we’re posting it..

right. so, Adam Freeland is a DJ and producer from the UK, now based in LA. His new LP Cope is co-produced by Alex Metric and showcases a random hodgepodge of musicians including Joey Santiago from The Pixies, Twiggy Ramirez from Marlyn Manson, Tony Bevilacqua of Distillers/Spinnerette and yes the amazingly talented Tommy Lee from Motley Crue. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE.. with guest appearences from Soundpool, Brody Dalle (Distillers/Spinnerette and does guest vox on “Borderline”) and DEVO’s Gerald Casale. haha all that and then he recruits some random named Kurt Baumann to front the thing. which is cool and good for that dude, it’s not like he sucks, but wtf?! either way, the result is some pretty dec electro rock… still every time that beat hits, just can’t help but think about Tommy Lee’s late 80’s arena drum masturbation

COMMENTARY: Independence Day (1996)

alien

so i was watching the film “independence day” the other day, i mean why not right? its fourth of july weekend! that’s what you do, right? and really everytime i watch the film i think (other than, man, why wasn’t harvey fierstein’s character more developed, amirite?) holy shit why didn’t the aliens invade packing macs? RIGHT???? i mean as was called out in the movie, the aliens knew when to attack us, how to attack us, all that bullshit, supposedly studied the human race for decades and then they neglect the whole mac/pc virus thing????
right… anyway, can you say bitchin’ sequel? the aliens return + macs……i see the screenplay (this is just an idea) playing out in three basic phases, 1) aliens blow shit up….this is good for at least 45 minutes of film time, 2) goldblum’s fuckin’ puzzled…..this should go on for about 45 minutes too….goldblum puzzled = $$$$$$, trust us! 3) we make millions. you know vivica fox’s plastic surgery fund is runnin’ a bit thin, she’d be down for sure and we could prob get bill pullman to work for weed. so roland emmerich, ball is in your court, dude, call us!
