Premiere: Ashley Koett – Call Me [EP]

Out today is “Call Me” Ashley Koett, the new EP from Colorado artist Ashley Koett. “Call Me” features singles “Lovers” and the excellent title track + new ones “White Book”, “Sunday”, and “Bye Bye Baby”. With a sound that draws on influence from jazz and R&B and modern indie pop, rock, etc and Koett’s sound is at varying points throughout the EP surrealistic and dreamy and at other times more straightforward pop. The common thread throughout “Call Me” is its excellent songwriting and well-paced arranging that’s topped off by Koett’s cool, unique, and engaging vocal. Premiere: Little Elizabeth – Gday For It

Yes! We’re especially stoked to premiere the video for one of our favorite songs of the year so far “G’Day For It” from Little Elizabeth. On “G’day For It” the Melbourne AU trio channel the sound of lo-fi visceral funk birthed in the late 70’s by artists like Latimore and George McCrae. The sound of “G’day For It” is cool as hell. The video finds the Little Elizabeth crew fitted to “G’day For It”s midtempo BPMs amidst the sunny back-lit rolling hills and skate parks of Australia. Premiere: Saba Abraha – Pathway

“Pathway”, new from Ethiopian-born singer Saba Abraha, is a cool unexpected swerve on the sound of modern alt R&B. On the track, which we’re very pleased to premiere here at B3, Abraha both melodically and in the song’s arrangement takes her time allowing “Pathway”‘s pacing to introduce mood and echo thematically its lyrical narrative. A narrative Abraha says, “is a reminder to take off the armor and to trust whole-heartedly without fear.” We’re digging the approach and the song’s refreshing sound. Shaqdi – Better

UK singer Shaqdi streams “Better” from forthcoming Colourless EP due in May. A cooled out R&B number framed by washes of rhodes and distorted guitar leads, “Better” cuts a spacious, deliberate tone across its very listenable 3:23.

Pete Philly – Favorite Song

The cool man from Amsterdam Pete Philly is back with head-nodder new one in the form “Favorite Song”. Boosted up by jazzy rhythm structures and bits of brass throughout the track, “Favorite Song” is as great in its arrangement as it is in its just instant magnetism and catchiness. Welcome back.

Westerman – I Turned Away

New from UK artist Westerman is “I Turned Away”. One of the coolest/innovative and new blends of genre we’ve heard thusfar in the year, “I Turned Away” takes subtle bits from a wide stylistic range. Cool R&B-based, but subtle and not “alt R&B in 2018” – something new, rhythm structures are mixed to melodic phrases that in the agency of a less talented hand may come off as incongruous, forced, weird, etc but on “I Turned Away” sound remarkably fresh and impactful.
