Clipse – “When the Last Time” (Return of Mack Remix)
when the last time you heard a mash-up this ill? putting malice and pusha up on one of the realest backbeats in music history (mark morrison’s “return of the mack”) = genius. so…. we’re just gonna pretend the first couple singles we’ve heard off clipse’s upcoming “til the casket drops” never happened and bang this shit like every weekend really is like mardi gras.
“lay your head where my heart used to be, hold the earth above me”, ….one of the most beautiful lines ever put to music. “green grass” is a song that swallows you up, envelops you, eases, rips, tears, comforts …”green grass” exposes (at those most self-selectively impossible times) that space that capacity to feel something….anything.
abbey sings ellington. off 1959’s “abbey is blue” LP. an all-time favorite vocal. that moment when she lifts out into the song’s title words… just stunning.
