Brooklyn producer John Fontein rolls the back the clock picking up the classic Clipse track “Gangsta Lean” (’02) and taking that sweet Neps beat all the way back, Sunday afternoon – 1981 back. This is the sort of joint you lean back to, you throw your glass of wine-holding hand in the sky and you sway to. Yep. Gangsta Lean.

Lips is the byname of Kiwi by way of Brooklyn artist Steph Brown. “Everything to Me” succeeds on its beautiful carefully phrased melodies and expertly layered instrumental syncopation. Listening to the laid back track, you’ll likely find yourself at ease, cool, calm with the track; but there’s enough rhythm, enough movement in the track that you’ll probably also find yourself bobbing your head; the best sort of marriage for tunes of its style.

“Karen” is previewed from Chew Lips’ debut LP, Unicorn, due at the end of January. their song “Play Together” has grown to be one of our favorite dance-pop tracks of the year, and “Karen” has a similar effect, yet is different with its subtle exploration of catchy guitar work. more than anything though, this tune grows on you.

when the last time you heard a mash-up this ill? putting malice and pusha up on one of the realest backbeats in music history (mark morrison’s “return of the mack”) = genius. so…. we’re just gonna pretend the first couple singles we’ve heard off clipse’s upcoming “til the casket drops” never happened and bang this shit like every weekend really is like mardi gras.
“Annie Blue” is the latest track previewed from Launder forthcoming “Pink Cloud”. Produced by Jackson Philips (Day Wave), “Annie Blue” wins on its really strong melodic writing (it’s awesome melodic hook, after awesome melodic hook, etc) souped up quite nicely in a sheen on reverb-y guitar c/o DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith.

We’re revisiting “Matter” from B3 all-time fave electronic duo Kenton Slash Demon (rock stars!!!), who created two of the best tracks and compilations of 2015 “Harpe” and “Psyco” (absolutely goregous). Although the timeless subtle-vibe techno song is from 5 years ago it still resonates at a high frequency and captivates us immeasurably. A stellar blend of stacatto metallic atmospherics, enchanting vibe-y vocal clips, and quietly driven techno rhythms, “Matter” has us listening on repeat. Five years on, we’re amazed at the strength of “Matter”. Vibe out with it here. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
