The Nero crew dropped into BBC Radio 1’s live lounge today and cut what can only be called an EPIC (all caps) session. The electronic act laid down blistering live instrument versions of single “Promises” and a cover of Friendly Fires “Live Those Days Tonight”. Pala is album of the year material. The cooled out title track of Friendly Fires new mindblower of a LP just might be our fav song off the record yet. All the best trappings of 80’s 90’s R&B (some of our favorite music) are here and mixed up with the best electronic music those genres influenced and then all tied together with the Fires’ stunning pop sensibility. Records like Pala are why we do this.

From “Paris” to “Jump in the Pool”, Friendly Fires always bring the heat on the choruses. And the out of this world choruses on the band’s cover of Depeche Mode’s “Strange Love” are no exception; a blend of atmospheric house-tinged synths and a falsetto that sounds ripped via satellite from the otherside of galaxy. You could put this cover on American pop radio right now and it’d be a Top 10 hit. It’s that good. It sounds totally fresh, new, and interesting but could still totally slice the charts apart.

UK’s Friendly Fires have mixed the next Suck My Deck compilation expected September 27 via team Bugged Out. “Stay Here” will be featured on the compilation, and it showcases a collaboration with Friendly Fires and Canadian house collective Azari and III. here’s a pretty clean radio rip of the track, it’s pretty damn sick… GET YR DANCE ON!

Although we’ve come to the end of the road, still Adele we can’t let you go. We’ve reached 2011’s closing hour and now it is time: b3sci presents it’s Top 50 Albums of 2011. No one’s even come close to having the year Adele’s had. The most albums sold in a single year since 2004, two of the biggest singles of the year, etc, a truly international breakthrough both commercially and critically on a level we haven’t seen in a long time. Adele, our girl, the crown is yours. 21 is b3sci’s Album of the year.
So where the fuck is Adele on many of these respected-indie-press-dude best of lists? That period between Nov 2010 when “Rolling in the Deep” first broke and the lead up to the album’s release in late January, Adele ruled the blogosphere, the fold was united. Then “RITD” got overplayed to the point of absurdity, your mom bought the record, probably your grandma bought it too; those bros that listen to Foo Fighters and Deadmau5 started bumping “Someone Like You” out their trunk. Soon, the “wrong people” liked 21 and Adele’s brief moment atop the indiesphere was over. Right.
