“I’m New Here” is the lead track from Jamie XX’s forthcoming, We’re New Here, Gil Scott-Heron remix project. With the guts of Gil’s embattled baritone, Jamie XX melds the rhythmic electro Frankenstein that is this collaboration between two of the coldest motherfuckers on the planet.
Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX- I’m New HereThe first leaks off Jamie XX’s Gil Scott-Heron remix project. Can you say exciting as fuck? Jamie remixes all 13 tracks from the legendary singer/activist’s lauded 2010 “comeback” LP for the upcoming We’re New Here project. What a brilliant combination. We can not wait for this to come out.
Gil Scott-Heron – NY Is Killing Me (Jamie XX Remix) via mu-siqueThe x man continues his Worldbeating tour of nonstop jams on this flip of the Rui Da Silva track “Touch Me”. A track that minus the semi-dated turn of the century production values could be, in a parallel world of (Imagine!) The xx 10 years ago, an xx track itself. Expect a sonorous blend of caviar percussion tones and champagne synth voicings in the mix. A tip of our tumblers to the ham and eggers over at mymatestretchy on the track.

OMG! The xx beatmaker goes in on the Adele song of the year candidate. So legit. CDQ soon.
Adele – Rolling in the Deep (Jamie Xx Remix) (Radio Rip) via Keshia BeeSo if you’ve had urban/pop radio on at any point in the last couple weeks you’ve likely heard new Roc Nation ingenue Rita Ora’s RIP track. If you’ve been on the Drake train for a little while, then you’ll likely recognize the hook from his “I’m Ready For Ya” song from a couple years ago. (Oh and that other hook, “can you hear my heart is beating” that’s Nneka’s – “Heartbeat” song from ’09, which maybe more famously was then remixed by Chase & Status). Through the magic of the internet, all of R.I.P.’s component parts have now been fused together into one cohesive (monster) mix. Seems like a bit of a trend has emerged in hip hop (again probably though the magic of the internet and just the broadening of the emerging music dialogue/dynamic/audience) in sampling relatively current hit indie tracks Drake’s Jamie xx/Gil Scott-Heron sampling “Take Care” immediately comes to mind. Spin it and let us know what you think.

Fucking mega. Drake via Jamie xx via Gil Scott-Heron. Give Drake a hand for going for something somewhat less predictable at this point in his career. Get this shit on the radio. We need NEW Drake songs. I can only slow headbob that “She Will” shiz so many times.
